Recommended Books/Audiobooks
These are some of the books that I highly recommend:
Tactics - The Art & Science of Success - written by Edward de Bono, a Maltese physician, author, inventor, and consultant who possesses 6 degrees. He has authored 56 other books. He is the man who originated the term 'lateral thinking'.
Creating Magic - written by Lee Cockerell, the former Executive Vice President, Operations at The Walt Disney Company. The book provides 10 common sense leadership strategies from a life at Disney. No manager should be without this book! Only around £8.00 from Amazon, and it's the best £8 you may end up spending!
The Challenger Sale - written by Matthew Dixon and Brent Adamson. The authors exclusively share the insights to sales success even in difficult economic times when nobody wants to buy: don't just build relationships with customers. Challenge them! No Business Development Manager should be without a copy of this book.
The New Gold Standard: 5 Leadership Principles for Creating a Legendary Customer Experience Courtesy of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company - written by Joseph A. Michelli. Everyone wonders why The Ritz-Carlton Company does so well in providing a truly 5-star luxury service world-wide. This book provides the ultimate answer.
Racing to Armageddon - written by British journalist Jeffrey Robson. This book will appeal to anyone who enjoys Alistair Maclean-type thrillers. It is set during World War II. There is a wealth of information about the various Greek partisan factions as well as the Soviet, German, British and Italian espionage operations. Fascinating stuff, and perfect for long-haul fights!
Three Journeys...Two Courses, One Resolve - written by Canadian author Eli Pomerleau. Anybody who has been through a relationship breakup in their life would know how difficult it can be to come over it. This is a story of rebuilding from brokenness and loss. For most, this can be a painful process of inner rehabilitation. For others, it's an adventure of a lifetime.
The Accident Man - Before you start reading all the conspiracy stories about the death of the late Princess Diana, make sure you read Tom Cain's thriller- it's a ripper of a book!
The Beatles: The Biography - By Bob Spitz, and narrated by Alfred Molina. For those of us who thought they knew the true story of The Beatles, think again. You've heard all the hype: "get this... it is the definitive version, rah rah" well, believe THIS hype - it's true. A truly remarkable piece of journalism. Sadly, these days, if a band has more than three hit songs they are 'legends'. Do yourself a favour and have a listen - start by listening to all the songs, and appreciate what music was really like.
India Dishonoured: Behind a nation's war on women - written by British journalist Sunny Hundal. The incredible research that has gone into the work is very impressive. A remarkable piece of journalism that goes in detail to illustrate the potential reasons behind the increasing amount of violence against women in India, and how it's set to get worse - affecting every facet of Indian society. Approximately 65 MILLION- I say again- 65 MILLION women are 'missing' in India, according to the 2011 Census. This is not only a genocide but a sign of worse problems to come. This book is not for the faint hearted, and at times is not a comfortable read - however it will no doubt deepen your knowledge about the issue of violence against women in India.
